🔹ETH
Speaking at Devconnect in Buenos Aires, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin cautioned that continued accumulation of ETH by BlackRock and other major institutions could create two significant risks for the ecosystem. First, developers focused on decentralization may be pushed aside, weakening Ethereum’s community. Second, design decisions at the base layer—such as targeting ~150 ms block times to suit large institutions—could make it unrealistic for ordinary users to run their own nodes, leading to both geographic and network centralization.
For context, nine major Wall Street ETF providers now collectively hold more than $18 billion in ETH, with corporate treasuries holding a comparable amount. At current trends, institutional ownership could soon reach—or even surpass—10% of the total ETH supply.
